Apply for the Disability Tax Credit
How do I apply for the Disability Tax Credit?
The Disability Tax Credit application combines your information with certification from an authorized medical practitioner. CRA reviews the completed application; submitting it does not establish eligibility.
Where to begin
- Choose the CRA digital application or the current paper T2201; use the same method for both parts.
- Complete Part A. For the digital route, give the reference number to your medical practitioner.
- Have the authorized practitioner complete Part B. Follow the digital submission process, or mail the completed, signed paper form.
- Keep a copy and check CRA’s decision before treating the credit as approved.
Before you open the official service
- The current application and the appropriate practitioner.
- Representative authorization, if someone is acting for you.
Keep your actual documents and account details off this website. Use the official service’s current checklist before applying.
What to check for your situation
Do not use CRA’s general “Submit documents” service for this application. Practitioners may charge a fee. CRA, not this guide, determines eligibility.
Fees, processing times and document rules can change. This page helps you navigate; it does not confirm eligibility or replace the government’s instructions.
