Change your address after moving in Canada
Who do I need to tell when I move in Canada?
There is no single government address update that reaches every department. Make a list of the services you use, then update each through its own official route.
Where to begin
- Use Canada.ca’s address directory to identify the departments you need.
- Update CRA and any relevant Service Canada or immigration records separately.
- Check the destination province’s health and driving services, then your municipality.
Before you open the official service
Use the official directory as a checklist of separate updates.
- Check personal taxes and child benefits with CRA; EI, CPP or OAS with Service Canada; and IRCC if you have an application in progress.
- Business tax accounts have their own update routes. An ordinary move only needs a SIN address update when you are waiting for the SIN confirmation letter.
- Check provincial health coverage and driving records, plus the municipal services you use.
Keep your actual documents and account details off this website. Use the official service’s current checklist before applying.
What to check for your situation
Changing an existing address is different from enrolling in health coverage or transferring a licence after moving to another province.
Fees, processing times and document rules can change. This page helps you navigate; it does not confirm eligibility or replace the government’s instructions.
