Apply for a Canadian child passport
Can I renew a passport for my child?
A child passport cannot be renewed. For a child under 16, use a new child-passport application, including when replacing an expiring passport. Choose the official instructions for where you are applying.
Where to begin
- Choose the child application for Canada or the country where you are applying.
- Prepare the application, supporting documents, photos and required signatures.
- Use the submission and payment route in the official instructions.
Before you open the official service
Prepare the checklist for your application route; a previous child passport does not remove the document requirements.
- Provide proof of Canadian citizenship and proof of parentage. Check the original-versus-copy rules for the citizenship document you hold.
- Include applicable custody, decision-making, separation, divorce or guardianship documents. Follow the signature requirements for parents and legal guardians.
- Use the official application instructions for two identical commercial photos, the guarantor and any passport the child holds that is still valid.
