Apply for a building permit in Mississauga

Prepared by · Sources checked

How do I apply for a building or renovation permit in Mississauga?

Mississauga requires building-permit applications through ePlans. Check zoning and other approvals first; the request, document upload, review and issued permit are separate stages.

Application steps

  1. Check whether your project needs a permit and review the property's zoning.
  2. Gather the project-specific drawings and forms. Complete the Applicable Law Form and resolve relevant heritage, conservation or other approvals.
  3. Create or sign in to ePlans. Start under Building Applications, submit the permit request and pay the administration fee.
  4. Use the City's invitation and temporary project number to open the applicant upload task and provide drawings and supporting documents.
  5. Complete requested pre-screen corrections. Pay the additional fees requested after pre-screening; the City then creates the application number.
  6. Follow department review and resubmission instructions. Once approved, download the issued permit and drawings, keep required documents on site and arrange inspections.

What to check for your situation

An ePlans request is not an issued permit. Property-specific approvals and review comments can change what is needed.

Fees, processing times and document rules can change. This page helps you navigate; it does not confirm eligibility or replace the government’s instructions.
