Where and how do I submit a building-permit application in Ottawa?
Ottawa accepts Building Code Services applications through the Building, Planning and Land Development service in My ServiceOttawa. This record explains the submission process, not whether a particular renovation requires a permit.
Application steps
- Use the City's project-planning guidance to identify your application type and project requirements before starting the online submission.
- Sign in to My ServiceOttawa or create an account, then register through the Building, Planning and Land Development service widget.
- If you have earlier applications, follow the Customer PIN instructions to link them. New users without earlier applications can select Do Not Link and Continue.
- Choose Start an Application and select the relevant construction permit and work description.
- At the Documents step, upload the required plans and forms. Select a document type for every uploaded file; mandatory attachments are identified in the portal.
- Complete the submission and payment instructions, retain the confirmation, and monitor the account for City requests and issued documents. Inspections can also be requested through the portal.
