Get and check your credit report
How do I get my credit report and correct errors?
You can get free credit reports through Equifax and TransUnion. Checking your own report does not lower your credit rating. Review both because a report error can affect borrowing decisions.
Where to begin
- Use the official FCAC links to the bureaus’ free report routes.
- Download or request your reports; distinguish a free report from optional paid monitoring.
- Check personal details, accounts, balances and payment history.
- Report errors to the bureau and the organization that supplied the information.
- For unfamiliar accounts or suspected fraud, contact affected lenders and both bureaus, then follow the official reporting instructions.
Before you open the official service
- Identification requested by the bureau, supplied directly to it.
- Records supporting any disputed item.
Keep your actual documents and account details off this website. Use the official service’s current checklist before applying.
What to check for your situation
A credit report and a credit score are different. A score alone does not determine approval or a lender’s rate.
Fees, processing times and document rules can change. This page helps you navigate; it does not confirm eligibility or replace the government’s instructions.
